Watchfully Green

There are several things I really find appealing about this photo. First of all, the angle from which the photo was shot: the lines of the piece of wood draw the eye towards the creature, which in turn seems to be "on the lookout", even more because the photo was shot from slightly below the creature.

Second, the photo displays good use of depth of field, with both the foreground and background being out of focus, drawing all possible attention to the animal.

Third, I really like how the creature really blends in with his surroundings; overall, all the natural greens and browns give this photo a really nice, tranquil atmosphere.

And fourth, I really like what the artist has done with the photo framing. For some reason, the "squeezed" look somehow just fits perfectly with these kind of animals, imho.

Also two points of possible improvement though: first, even though the animal is in-focus, it's not 100% sharp; I guess either the camera or the animal or both slightly moved when this shot was taken.

Second, considering composition, I wouldn't have mind if you could see a little bit more of what's on the right of the creature's head, showing a little bit more of the scenery next t it (but perhaps there was an ugly artificial object in the way or something like that, in which case I have said nothing <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />)

All in all a very interesting shot that is now in my collection of <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/p/p…" width="15" height="16" alt="" title="+fav" />s!
